Day 1- A brisk beginning

1 01 2010

Today marks the first of a new decade! The ’10s? What should we call it? I’m still not sure how to refer to the LAST decade after living in it for 10 years.

This year is particularly meaningful as I face my 40th birthday in just 5 1/2 months… so with a blue moon shining down yesterday and a long list of resolutions to choose from, I decided to go with exercise in a big way. I will run and/or do some form of sweat-producing activity EVERY single day of 2010. This blog will hold me accountable — whether anyone reads it or not!

I’ll spend more time on who I am and why this is important (have 364 days to do that…), so stay tuned. Today on the first day of this quest, I ran 3 miles in 33 minutes. My usual neighborhood route, but with much more snow than my typical fair-weather run between April and October. I haven’t run since early November when I did a 6-mile run in beautiful Atlanta sunshine while visiting my sister. As the first day of a new year typically does, it felt great. The sun was shining, 34 degrees with leftover Christmas snow covering the sidewalks. I can do this!
